PCYC WOLLONGONG PROGRAMS

Our range of PCYC programs aim to give young people practical, real life skills that they can apply to work, family and their community.

Our sports and youth programs aim to build on young people skills and character through training and mentoring, creating young leaders of the future.

Driving education programs promote safer driving, and OOSH supports families, parents and communities by providing affordable after school care.

RISE UP PROGRAMS

PCYC is unique among youth organisations because it is the only one which is a partnership between the community and the NSW Police Force.

We work with the NSW Police Force youth command work to counter the impact of juvenile offending.

Our Police youth case managers’ approach has proven results and contributes towards reducing reoffending rates by 60 to 70 per cent.

Programs have to incorporate education relevant to the crime category on which the officers are focusing. An example of that would be a break and enter program: the education component could include a presentation from insurance companies on the impact of break and enters, a presentation from a victim, and discussion on crime statistics and dealing with the volume of what’s occurring in that area to help educate young people on the impact of their actions.

Fit for Work

Fit For Work is a program designed to holistically address a young person’s disengagement from their family, education and employment opportunities, to help reduce and prevent their involvement in anti-social behaviour and/or crime. This will ultimately lead to increased employment opportunities for a cohort that traditionally is reflected in high unemployment statistics. Aimed at youth aged 15-17 years.

Fit For Life

Wollongong's Fit For Life Program runs on Thursday mornings from 7:00am sharp to 8:15am throughout the school term. This program is available to young people of high school age. The session begins with a warm-up, followed by a 30min physical activity determined on the day to suit ability levels of participants. The group is then cooled down with light stretching before cleaning up and participating in a healthy breakfast. Participants then make their way to school. There is a bus service offered to the northern suburbs however seats are limited so we encourage participants to try to arrange their own transport if possible.

DRIVING PROGRAMS

PCYC NSW is proud to be the largest provider of safer drivers education courses across the state. Part of our mission to empower and protect young people in NSW includes keeping them safe on our roads. Younger drivers face many challenges when learning the complex task of driving a vehicle. With their relative inexperience, they also face a higher risk of being involved in a crash.

The Safer Drivers Course aims to provide learner drivers with the knowledge they need to reduce road risks and prevent accidents by becoming a safe driver. As an Accredited Provider of the transport for NSW Safer Drivers Course, PCYC NSW know that our students will complete the course with a greater of understanding of how to be a safe P-plate driver.

Safer Drivers Course (SDC)

The Safer Drivers Course aims to provide learner drivers with the knowledge they need to reduce road risks and prevent accidents by becoming a safe driver. As an Accredited Provider of the transport for NSW Safer Drivers Course, PCYC NSW know that our students will complete the course with a greater of understanding of how to be a safe P-plate driver. Statistically, the first six months after receiving your provisional license are the most dangerous. New P-plate drivers can find it challenging on the roads without the support of an experienced instructor by their side. Our course equips young drivers with the tools they need to manage the transition to a full license. PCYC NSW are the largest provider of Driver Education Programs across New South Wales, with over 60 clubs we have the ability to deliver this course state-wide.
